Travel: Part One – Partway-Round-the-World

I certainly do get around! Probably the best thing of all things, for me, is moving along, travelling, passing through towns, cities, regions, countries, and cultures. I'm perfectly comfortable in new situations, dealing with the unexpected and the unknown – after all, I've been at it since I was three!

I've lived in seven US states and one foreign country (England). I've visited 19 more states, 8 Canadian provinces and 9 additional countries, and I've passed through 10 other states and 2 more provinces. I'm comfortable speaking and reading French and have done at least basic studies in six other languages. My specialty is counting from one to ten!!
We see where this is leading....

I think my dream of a round-the-world trip is not an unusual one. I imagine most footloose types don't wait so long into their lives to get around to doing it, however. And usually, when people go around the world, they go around. Not me! I'm leaving in late March 2006 for a Partway-Round-The-World jaunt – probably to include only Europe.

Here are three handy maps:

Europe map This map of Europe is really very clear. It's fuzzy here because it's small, but if you download it, you can zoom in and see the various countries quite well.

I'm flying Aer Lingus to Shannon, Ireland first. That's roughly where the “RE” of IRELAND are seen on the map. After that, it's all up in the air!
HaHa – no pun intended, as I'll be using mostly ground transport!

UPDATES! If I am able to update this page on the road, stories of my travels will be posted here.
New!
Second and final Ireland update now posted. Scroll about 2/3 down the page and look for the “New” icon.

Great Britain and Ireland map, flagged with visited areas This is my first destination area – the British Isles. I've flagged all the places that I've visited already. For England and Scotland, you may as well connect the flags, as I've been nearly everywhere in between, too. Scandinavia map, flagged with visited areas

Here we have my second intended destination area – Scandinavia. I've flagged this map, as well, with the places I've been in Denmark and Sweden.
I look forward to seeing the sun circle the horizon – or almost – at midsummer!

Have you seen this woman?

If this appears to be that person you used to work with, or met in a youth hostel or bus or train, or had a chat with once in a pub, or were friends with years ago, feel free to contact me. I cannot say that I'll have much time or ability to e-mail on the road, but it would be quite fine to hear from you! [address removed 2007]
