Folk Coffeehouses and House Concerts in New England |
|
Coffeehouses are like clubs without alcohol. Some serve light meals or desserts. They tend to operate in the evenings, with a headline performer just like in a club, and seating either in rows (concert-style) or at small tables (club-style). Many are held in church function halls or parish halls. The distinction between coffeehouses and non-licensed clubs or cafés is a small one. If the venue calls itself a Coffeehouse, it is listed here, under coffeehouses. House concerts are held in private homes, with the household members as hosts. The listings here are for regular house concert series open to the public, however, for reasons of privacy, addresses are not given. To attend a house concert, you must contact the host in advance.
